Cleaning and household chores can take up a lot of our time, especially as people prepare their homes for Christmas. In a Reddit forum dedicated to cleaning hacks, one user shared how they "use idle moments" to speed clean their home.

The user, named UristMcD, explained how you only need between "three and five minutes" to "significantly" make a difference to household maintenance.

They said: "Waiting for the electric kettle to boil for your tea? Or microwaving something?

"Instead of using the three to five minutes faffing about, do something with it.

"You'll be surprised how much you can get done in that time if you're consistent with it."

While all manner of tasks can be conducted during this time, the user recommends 13 simple but effective cleaning chores to focus on.

They said: "I found the time it takes to boil an electric kettle with enough water for two large cups is enough time to do any one of these.

"Given I'll drink about six or seven cups of tea in a day easily, and when I was the one house-spousing a couple of years ago I was able to get a significant chunk of the more essential housework done without really feeling like I was doing anything."

By doing short bursts of cleaning tasks, residents can enjoy an "easier way" of "maintaining an area" rather than tackling a week's worth of chores in one go.
