A man who lured his ex-partner to a hotel room before tying her up and pouring boiling water over her face and body has been jailed for six years.

Sam Wild, 38, also known as Sam Barlow, coerced his ex-partner into meeting him at a hotel in Meadowhall, Sheffield, after having drinks in the city centre earlier that evening.

Following their rendezvous, Wild asked his ex to come up to his hotel room where he then tricked her into taking her clothes off.

Shortly afterwards, he tied her up and proceeded to pour scalding hot water from a kettle he just boiled all over face and body, before fleeing the scene and leaving her bound and in excruciating pain.

The woman eventually managed to free herself and alerted hotel staff, who called the police.

Sheffield Crown Court heard how the victim was left with first and second degree burns following the attack, and had been ‘psychologically scarred’ by the ordeal.

Speaking in court, PC Jane Guest, from Sheffield’s Protecting Vulnerable People (PVP) team, said: ‘Wild and his victim had previously been in a relationship but were separated at the time this horrific and premeditated attack took place.

‘That night Wild lured his vulnerable ex-partner to a hotel room and tricked her into taking her clothes off.

‘She later told officers that she believed Wild wanted to have sex with her and she was too scared to refuse.

‘He used this pretence to tie her up and then, with no thought for her safety, poured boiling water over her face and body.’

‘Wild’s victim suffered significant and extensive burn injuries to her face and body – both first and second degree,’ she added.

‘She was in the specialist burns unit for weeks and even now, continues to receive treatment.

‘She has demonstrated exceptional strength, not just in her physical recovery, but in her support of our investigation.

‘Her victim statement was read aloud in court, which was incredibly powerful and deeply upsetting. She will be scarred for life by Wild, not just physically but psychologically too.

‘To subject another person to such agonising pain and harm is incomprehensible and no jail sentence can ever undo the damage caused by Wild’s violence.’

Wild was sentenced to six years in jail after pleading guilty to Section 18 assault – wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

‘I truly hope that with the conclusion of proceedings this week and the lifetime restraining order granted against Wild, the victim feels her journey towards recovery has taken another shift forward,’ PC Guest added.
